What core principle of OT theology is most neglected as we do NT theology? What are the consequences of this omission?

I believe the core principle of OT theology that is perhaps most neglected is that the OT is the key to NT theology. The understanding of the OT in regard to Christ and the NT is absolutely essential y based on Luke’s account of the Emmaus road incident where the resurrected Jesus says, "O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 "Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?" 27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. (Luke 24:25-27) Hence, to understand Jesus, his teachings, mission, and indeed His resurrection it is necessary to gain an understanding of OT theology. Otherwise one’s NT theology will be built on a vapory foundation.

We must understand the NT in the light of a developing history of redemption with three pivotal aspects (creation / new creation, Exodus / second exodus, Old covenant / new covenant)

The human response to these great acts of divine redemption, expressed in the covenant structure, can be interpreted theologically in terms of faith, hope, and love based on Paul's insight that faith, hope and love are the only three things that last forever (1 Cor 13:13). Ignoring this principle results in a non-integrated incomplete understanding of the NT.

SeaPeak is absolutely right. The OT is the key to the NT.

The Bible is not the story of the unfolding of diverse theologies or of a conflict between two principles (law / gospel) or two covenants (works / grace) or series of dispensations.

The Bible is to be read from the perception of a unity paradigm. Different specific covenants are involved but only one uniform covenant structure.
One covenant structure plays itself out progressively through the Bible.
